You have showed that the lens will work well under the conditions that you shot this picture in. Very good. It brings to mind a poem my Grandpa used to quote. I do not know who wrote it.

"What a wonderful bird is the Pelican His beak can hold more then his belly can."

That verse is widely attributed to Ogden Nash, because it sounds just like his wit, but it's actually from The Pelican by Dixon Lanier Merritt:

A wonderful bird is the pelican
His bill will hold more than his belican.
He can take in his beak Food enough for a week
But I'm damned if I see how the helican.
Nice bird picture, BTW.

Steve, absolutely beautiful lighting. Nice colors. Pelicans beak/bill is tack sharp. You should be proud of this one.

Sharp as, and tightly framed.

Great work, Steve. Love the hooked yellow tip of the bill. A photo to show just how good looking the Aussie pelican is compared to his brown northern hemispherean cousin. But this bloke doesn't do the spectacular aerial dives that the brown fellow does. Red catchlight - unusual. Regards.
