Gary, I think I like the color version better. I find the heron more difficult to distinguish from the background here. Also the highlights are more distracting. By the way, the link you gave is to a different picture not the original color version.

Thanks for your comment. I tend to agree with you. This should be the right link. http://myfourthirds.pixelcritic.com/document.php?id=12533&full=1

Nice Catch

I like the B+W , but the Color version really lets you know it is a BLUE Heron.

The branch in the BG could be burned in please foe me.

Both versions are nice..

Cheers,

jeff

I like 'em both, Gary.

This one, however, gives me a much stronger sense of the heron working in a patch of dappled light. I like that. The highlights on the water harmonise with the solid light. Agree with Jeff that you need to pay a little more attention to the highlights in this one. It looks very sharp - maybe a touch overdone on the water lights. But that's a minor point.

The color and conversion are excellent images, but I like this one better. It shows off the bird's concentration a little better. I also like the tonal range of the picture. The other item is the bird's reflection - the whole thing is very balanced to my eye.
