I'm not sure about this one, Joe.

The subject matter is certainly interesting, and I think the sky is beautiful. The composition lacks strong lines or sweeps in the land area and seems too static to me. However, the main wish I have is to see more differentiated contrast in the land area. There is a lot of middle grey. Perhaps tweaking the channel mixer will help create more difference between the earth and the vegetation. Regards.

got no problems with the 'static' composition. but i had to agree with Rob about to much middle greys of the land. the sky is just great. it seems to be two different processings of sky and land. would wish a bit more differented contrast in the land area, too. did u know the Three Must-Have Plug-Ins article on Luminous-landscape refering Convert To B&W Pro? the downloadable demo is worth a try.

I agree with Michael

Conversion

The conversion was in PS with channel mixer + hue-saturation with most adjustment done in the latter. Then, I played around a lot with shadows-highlights

I agree more contrast in the foreground is desirable, but I couldn't get it.

Separate Processing?

Nope, the image was processed as a whole. I was aiming for a "documentary" so there's no "funny business".

The shadows-highlights followed by USM (I think) produced a "halo" on the horizon which I removed (tediously) by cloning.

Thanks for the plug-in tips. I'll surely take a look.

Yes,for me this ladscape is fantastic... but i agree with others about contast on terrain...for example the right hill is look excellent but the left one not...and on this left side the bushes are not having enough contrast to jump out of the terrain...the clouds look...marvelous ( sorry for bad english),they look very creemy...Anyway very interesting place.

over sharpening?

I'm not sure what's going on with the forground here Joe, it looks like it may be over sharpened. It does not look like it was in sharp focus to start with. Maybe the combination of soft focus and oversharpening causes this effect?

Charles:

I suspect you are right...at least partly. The DoF is not great. I did not manual focus on the foreground, as perhaps I should have. I just took what the auto-focus gave me. I suspect it focused sharply on the clouds.

Th USM was applied uniformly to everything. I don't know if its application to soft areas (in some circumstances) makes thingl look over sharpened.

I meant to comment on this last night and then something happened.....I agree with the foregoing but I also think its a very very good landscape Joe. The clouds also are quite superb. It has a monumental type of appeal. Good to see you posting again. Look forward to more.......
