Atago Shrine, Tokyo
Copyright ©2006, Norm Havens ♥ ¤ $
The Atago Shrine is located on top of a hill in central Tokyo, and is known for a famous ritual of riding a horse up the steep stairway leading to the shrine. These *koi* were being fed by a woman visiting the shrine. The relatively slow shutter speed turned the water into jello.

Very colourful and I see the jelly effect. :-) I think that this is a picture I have difficulties viewing on its’ own terms because it makes me think of some pictures I saw last year. Pictures by the Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi Utatane. One of them of a single fish like these – small with open mouth centred on the picture. Very interesting and good picture and quite different from typical European and American pictures. I think of that picture and notice that the thought of that makes me think your picture is too busy for my taste.

A very colorful and lively composition Norm; I like oit very much; the jello look of the water works very well. ( the photo brings back memeories - I visited the Atago Shrine in Japan not too long a go)

Yes ...
all works for me, the water (great) the mass of fishes (don´t agree with Caroline, here less is less), the compo (like the one fish in the other direction) and the colors.
Can really feel the movement of the mass of fisch. Well taken.
Kind Regards

Varied perspectives
Thanks for the feedback. I haven't seen the Utatane photographs Caroline mentions, so can't comment on them, but I think what appealed to me about this shot is the way the fish themselves and more generally their colors seem to be just "becoming" out of the jellied water. Whether that appeals to anyone else is irrelevant, I know, but that's just the way I saw it. --Also an apology: when I first uploaded the shot I neglected to change the camera item--this was taken with the E-300 not E-1. Sorry if this misled anyone.
