NO SUBJECT
I’ll try my hand at a critique ... though I’m not very good at it.
In my opinion, the subject is interesting with a lot of potential and the depth of field of your main subject looks good.
The composition is not very engaging, possibly due to the on-center presentation of the subject and disconnected presence of the other elements, which just feels like clutter.
Some things you might think about doing:
You might move closer to the subject and make it more of an abstract. Like, take a straight on look at the pump, zoom in on the “Iowa” text and only include the faucet side of the pump in the frame. Perhaps include a drip from the spout, which might add some tension to the image … I’m not really sure.
Another approach you might try is adding more depth of field. This, plus repositioning your point of view, might tie the main subject into the background elements; either “water for the trees” or “water for the town.” This connection would tell more of a story and draw the viewer into your image.
A third possibility might be to make this a prop for a portrait or some candid images.
Just my thoughts … I’m not sure they help.
