The simplicity makes this shot.

I like the treatment which is sympathetic with the subject matter, making a restful image. The sky adds to the atmosphere and serenity, as does the relative calm of the sea.

Cheers

This is ....

an international nautical navigation mark, and means that it is standing in the northern quadrant of a shoal. So far the facts. But how you have turned this in a graphical element is to highly to admire, denis. Like it for compo and conversion a lot.

BTW, have today bought a 120 rollfilm for my ancient Rolleiflex, cos your always square format has inspired me to that :-))

Be aware for the shoal, denis, best wishes,

Thank you Martin,Trond,Horst and Adrian....

Horst, hope you will have some great light and made some huge pictures from that Rollei...for me the most creative days with film it was with one borrowed double eye Yaschicamat ....(i am think to buy one second hand) which is a quite a same like Rollei ( a friend has one)....no zooms, just one 80mm and really this is enough for a creative photographer...( but i remember that Mamiya has one model with interchange lens)

Hey Denis,

I've come back to this one a few times since it was posted... and I have to say it isn't one of my favourites of yours. I like the light and the processing, but I am not so keen on the composition; the marker is OK, but for me the sky is too dominant, I don't find it interesting above the bright patch to the right. The movement of the water works well, but the marker looks almost pasted-in somehow. Difficult to explain, the marker just looks flat rather than 3-D to me.

So this time, one of the very few I have to say, I don't 'connect' with the scene very strongly at all. ;-(

Best wishes- Andy

Hi Andy...no, the sign is not pasted...but probably look that way because of 54 lenght...what i like here or with wat i was atracted to this is more like some look of a graphic ...it is just that...an arrow and a sea...the sign is in shadow because of low sun position on the right....

The sky is pretty 'undramatic' and it is underexposed in the foreground. However, the lesson in simplicity of composure is excellent.
