This is a close up of No. 1 taken into the sun which made a very fleeting and all too brief appearance. I would appreciate any feedback or critque of the conversion to b/w.

Conversion

I think the conversion works very well. I find this piece of machinery facinataing! I have never heard of this wheel. As far as the image goes, I would like to see less sky on the left.

oops

I meant less sky on the right and more machinery on the left. Sorry.

B/W Converstion

Eugene:

I think the conversion works well in both images. In this one, on my moniter, there appears to be a slight yellow/brown cast in parts of the clouds, especially around the light spot.

Aesthetically I prefer this image because its quite dramatic. For didactic purposes, the other is obviously to be preferred.

I too find this a fascinating bit of engineering. I'd really like to see it in action.

Best wishes...joe

Awsome!

B/W works well in both photos. This one against the light is indeed quite dramatic. I also see a bit of a yellow-brownish cast. Thanks for sharing the Fallkirk wheel here. I read that it is the only one of its kind worldwide. Kind regards, Eva

Many thanks

Hi Everyone and thanks for commenting on my shot.

Edwin your comments about the sky are spot on. Thanks.

Joe and Eva, yes there is a cast! I tried experimenting with PS CS photo filters and I went for a sepia filter but perhaps over did it! Thanks for spotting it and commenting.

John, I'm becoming a bit of a sucker too!!

Thanks to all of you.

Best wishes

Eugene

Perhaps...

Perhaps this would be better in a square format? Just thinking...

Also, the photo filters work well, but you can make your own "sepia" look by adjusting the color balance. I usually add 2 parts red and one part yellow. Most often a +10 or 12 red and +5 or 6 yellow. You can of course adjust this to suit your mood or image.

NO SUBJECT

Thanks Edwin,

For your continued reflections and info re conversions. I'll bear in mind what you have said and give it a go when I get a bit of time at the weekend.

Best...
