Liberte - Gay Pride
Copyright ©2004, Eugene Donohoe HoF Win ♥ ¤1 $
The Gay Pride movement had its annual parade last Saturday week and I went in to take some shots. It poured and poured rain. I found a spot in a doorway and attached the trusty old 50-200 lens and got some shots in. I particularly like this one. It reminds me of a painting by a French guy, I think Delacroix, which I think was entitled "Liberte" and which depicted the French revolution and its victory for the people on the day. It sort of says to me 'like it or not, we're here and we shall overcome'. I really admired them for their dedication to fight for their rights and especially it was such an awful day weather wise but their good humour and dedication brought out the sun of hope. I'm posting two versions - colour and b/w. I wonder which one you like/prefer - if either?!

Color is my choice
The day is so wet and grey, the image must be about tyhe color of the flag. I like this image very much.

Hi Edwin
Many thanks again for your comments. I'm jumping between the two but at the moment I think I prefer the b/w! Tomorrow I'll prefer this one!
Cheers
Eugene

Color Preferred
I have to agree with Matthew in this case. The color image is vastly superior, IMHO, to the black & white photograph. However, it is clear from the forum contributors that opinion varies. We all see things so differently. Great shot Eugene!

Thanks very much Matthew and Blayne for your comments. I think on reflection you're right - the colour does add something extra and special.
Best...

Brilliant
Eugene, this a wonderful shot, full of life! I prefer it in colour, it has more of a positive impact IMO. And I see what you mean about the 'Liberté' part of it - it's there.
Great pic. Yvonne

Excellent Capture
i don't see how this shot could have been framed any better. The color definitely stands out amidst the rainy day, and the patron holding the flag really communicates a sense of strength & pride.

Cher Pascal,
Eugene.
Dear Pascal I will write in English and get Babel Fish to translate. Forgive me for any errors in translation! Thank you for commenting on my Image Liberte and for your kind words. I have always liked that image by Delacroix and when the parade came around the corner I could not believe my eyes when it seemed like the painting had come alive in the modern age! Many thanks to you again.
With good wishes to you,
Eugene.

Hi Eugene
Not having seen this before I followed the link from the current debate on Photographic Freedom.
Yes it certainly is one to be proud of!
