John:
This is another nice "detail" image. Everything about the subject stands out sharply and the colors are quite pleasing.
From Salida, you might venture over Poncha Pass into the San Luis Valley. Ther you might find lots of subjects like this on which to exercise your skills.

Fun scarecrow! Makes me wonder what kind of beasties it's supposed to scare away. :-)
Agree with Joe - nice colours and details. I also like the background here - soft/out of focus but still gives enough information to get an impression of the environment.
