A nice simple study, using the red channel I would guess.

Nigel, this is a wonderful nature study--what an elegantly posed leaf! Great DOF, too, to show off the entire specimen.
At first, I wasn't so sure about the BG and the way I could see both its texture and its curve; I felt as if I might prefer it to be a little less obvious so that it didn't become an element itself in the image. But I've changed my mind after looking at this for a while. There is something about the texture of the BG that seems to echo the pattern/texture of the leaf itself, and even the curve of the paper seems to mimic the curve of the leaf. So it makes a satisfying whole, where the BG and leaf are in harmony with one another and almost on equal footing. Most of all, though, I love those wonderful shadows being thrown by the leaf. I might have been tempted to go with some sort of non-directional lighting, but I don't think the results would have been 1/10 as good; this is fabulous! A really lovely image.

Exquisite light and interesting toning. I especially like the way the leaf looks balanced. A fine composition.
