Let the games begin...

This is a low-budget improvisation thing for a sneaker label that is just starting... good fun to shoot but now the image is at the stage in processing where I need to rest it for a day or two... I'll look at it again after I have done one or two other things. (and after I have read your comments!)

It will be a full-page advertisement that will probably run in "Esquire" (NL edition) first, maybe an extra other title later on. Of course the "movie-poster" look is what I was after. I have put the logo in already; the top will say "Let the games begin..."

The colosseum is from my own archive btw, was made with the E1.

A little bit of the "making of" on my own site, in Dutch:

I didn't understand what you're realy asking a comment on the image as a photo or a comment on the idea or both, So I comment on both.

The image as a photo - Nice image, great computer work there, I wish I had time to sit and learn how to do this things.

The image as a promotion for sneakers label - There's no power there, the colors don't give power to the item, it's doesn't "Stand-up", the all idea has nothing to do with sneakers, this image is a great promotion to a movie not a sport item. But of course this in my 5 cent and I gave you this comment from my point of view as a sales manager :)))

Cheers Rina

thanks

Thanks Rina for commenting; I don't really need comments on the idea because the concept is by the client; I just translate it into an image... The shoes are inspired by old Italian and Roman history, by the way. (the logo for example is the shield of Milan, I think.) I do think the client should have brought less plain sneakers for the ladies; you can just see the gladiator's shoes have an embroidered coat of arms on the side, but the girls have just a silver stripe which has much less of the concept in it.

But, this should mainly be an eye-catcher to generate interest in the brand, it's not meant as a product-shot.

Hi Lourens - I have many years of marketing and advertising experience. My guess is your target market are teens to young adults in 20's. You should ask a group comprised of your target market if this ad would sell this product. Best - john

Hi Lourens - I just read your reply comment. I'm glad this is not your concept because I don't think it is very good unless the market is 10-12 year olds. You'd be doing your client a favor if you could talk him/her out of it. Best - john

P.S - I speak from an American consumer perspective. I acknowledge I could be way of the mark for an Italian market. Best - john
