Am awe inspiring scene. My favourite bits are the tiny details visible at the top and three quarters of the way down the cliff. They only serve to emphasise the immensity of the rock.

WOW!

What a great photo Don. I thought I was looking at a work by Ansel Adams! I love the simplicity and the detail in the shadows, but what makes this for me are those wisps of clouds. Regards, Jeremy

Vaggelis, we could in the spring when the snow starts to melt

Keith, anyone should go there at least once in their lifetime

Jeremy , the winter clouds do make a difference , it's the best season to shoot in Yosemite

Adrian, it's the largest monolith in the world ... cheers ;-))

A powerful scene. Well composed and converted.

Beside the ...

picture of this well known rock, I mostly like the clouds surrounding the rock and the toning of this image. Altogether it looks really nice.

Re largest rock in the world: on Wikipedia I found this:

"The three largest (Monolith) on Earth are:

   1. Mount Augustus, in Western Australia - 860m
   2. La Peņa de Bernal, in Mexico
   3. Stone Mountain, in Stone Mountain Park, Stone Mountain, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, USA"

El Capitan comes a little bit after this (I´m sure it was not an american who has written the article :-))

Best wishes,

This such a "simple" and yet effective picture. Even though Ansel Adams has probably not used sepia toning too often the mountain and the vintage treatment immediately remind me of him.

It certainly is an awesome sight. As Adrian observed, the tiny details really emphasise the sheer bulk of the rock. Beautiful work... And you may have opened Pandora's box of worms, with your claim about the world's largest monolith, and Horst's response...I think about the only certainty is that El Cap isn't. Some claim Mt Augustus is a monocline rather than a monolith, so who knows...??

Horst/ Stephen : ...FYI, El Cap is 910m in height ...cheers ;-)

correction

Horst / Stephen : I meant tallest, not largest , my bad ;-)

Klaus:no, sepia wasn't in AA's dictionary
