My favourite of the series so far. The stark crosses sit well within the arid landscape and also have a bit of a skeletal feel about them. I also like the departing lorry as this gives a nice play on the title. Really interesting essay eugene.

Thanks very much Adrian. Appreciate your following this essay. This one is also a favourite of mine from the series. I have another one from the same stretch of road but quite a few miles on that is singular but quite similar and will post.

I agree with Adrian, I also like this one the best, Eugene, the matching colors of the dry wood and the dry road creates the perfect mood of this picture!

I agree that this is one of the best. The double crosses are very moving and the barren scene itself complements the starkness of their deaths.

Don: Thanks very much for your comments. Yes a great time in Joshua Tree but as usual not long enough! I hope to share pictures from there eventually!

Frank thank you also for your comments. These ones moved me greatly as well when I came across them.

Eugene, of the ones I have seen in your series this far, I would say this one is the best. The two crosses in this apparently dry and isolated part of the road is deeply moving. The colours in the scene acentuate this feeling as well. This is for sure a very moving image and a nice part of an essay that is very moving.

Portugal, my country, would be and ideal place for your serie for the worst reason. I love the fact that you choose to call mine/our attention to this sad fact of our lifes in a society that has still a lot to do, regarding the respect for our planet and our own safety. I don't know why, maybe my own taste, i think this serie would benefict with a B/W approach or a more subtle Color PP... i like the fact that you managed to show us, how this is a real life fact in different places and not just a local problem... in terms of compo's i think only the 3rd, 7th and the last one differ from the whole serie visual as a whole line of work. I say this because one of the things i really like in your work is how you managed to bring balance with the chosen compo in the 01, 04, 05, 06, 08 and 09 despite all the different places you capture. Indeed a very strong work and one that sends a important message. Best wishes!

Thanks very much for your detailed commentary on my essay Joao. This is what I said in the article under the essay debate!

"Looking over them now, I’m not as satisfied as I might have liked to have been. I initially had the idea that I would capture the series at a 25mm focal length in and around f6.3 or 7.1, do them in colour and with as little processing in photoshop as possible. Now, I might prefer to use different settings, especially as I bought a new lens halfway through, giving more scope at different settings had I chosen to do that. I might also prefer to present them in b/w. This is why democracy is so difficult and fascism is so much more appealing. Having said that though, I was quite pleased with the colour relationships that I managed to achieve in at least some of the pics."

So I do agree with your reflections at this point.

Many thanks again. Eugene
