St Mary’s Lighthouse

St Mary’s Lighthouse
Copyright ©2008, robert cooper ¤ ¤

Reached between the tides via a short causeway, St Mary’s Lighthouse has all the fascination of a miniature, part-time island. The Lighthouse, completed in 1898, on a hazardous coast for shipping, remained operational until 1984 when it was superseded by modern navigational techniques.

St. Mary's Island is situated on the North East Coast of England at Whitley Bay.

The Island was originally part of Northumberland but when Tyne and Wear was formed the county boundary included the Island in Tyne and Wear.

The lighthouse has been a landmark on the coast for many years, guiding seafarers until it was made redundant and is now a museum.

The Island and lighthouse are reached along a causeway which is covered by the rising tide twice each day. So, if you are caught out on the Island you have a wait!

I am always amazed at the purity of the colors the e-1 produces, and this is no exception. I like the way you have framed the lighthouse with the details in the pilings. an enjoyable posting. have a good day. george

Excellent color reproduction. The composition as mentioned is very good, well framed. Even the "frame" works well here. Is the frame just a black then white border or did you do some "windows-like" shadowing around the white as well?

Robert, I really like this perspective and the detail you've gotten. Yes good color. My only thought would be to process another image underexposed enough to give texture to lighthouse and layer mask that in.
