Overall a good B&W. Pleasing conversion and good sharpness. Only critique I have is that a bit more light along the forehead would have been good because the shadow makes the snout look a bit narrow - unless of course this is a flatterring look in the world of horse glamour ;-)

I agree that as a b/w image it works really well - the conversion is really great and consistent with your work.
I think what resonates for me with your question - does it work? - I'm inclined to think perhaps not as well as it should, given the pretty masterful capture and conversion with those lovely tones.
I think what tips me that way is the expression on the horse. It feels like he is not quite with it here. Seems like in a world of his own and that somehow comes across as being less dynamic than one would wish for - if you know what I mean.
So while technically it's a great b/w, it lacks some dynamism for me in this current capture/horse pose.
Hope that makes sense Adrian!

My 2 cents...
I also like the conversion, but for me, it would have worked if the light were coming from in front of the hors rather than behind...that way his nose would have been fully lit and his forehead wouldn't have merged into the BG....turn him around next time...:o)
Just my thoughts...:o)

It works for me
I think the darker forehead does work. If anything it adds an air of mystery or perhaps even melancholy, if that isn't a wierd thing to say about a horse. the range of tones is lovely
