Monica's seagull post inspired me to give it a go today. I like the symetry obtained with these two gulls. Happy New Years guys and gulls (I mean girls).

NO SUBJECT

Very nice with two in a row with almost identical look/movement. :-)

Excellent capture Gary!

Nothing negative to say here. Like you I appreciate the symmetry of the two gulls and the overall composition. Very good control of fill-in flash, which doesn't appear overdone, but natural.

Best regards,

p.s.

What flash are you using Gary, and what settings did you use to achieve the delicate balance between flash and ambient light? Thanks!

What flash?

I don't see any evidence, and the 'Flash' box is set to NO???

Anyway, I'd like this much more, if the front bird wasn't cutting the upper bird in two. Still an excellent shot, though.

John, Caroline, Blayne and Tim...

Thank you for your positive comments.

Blayne - I did not use a flash on this capture. My other post "Seagull 1" had the flash applied. I used an Olympus FL40 which I purchased years ago when I had my first digital camera... the Olympus C-2500L. The incamera setting for the "Seagull 1" capture was a manual setting of 1/180 sec at f13 (I took a couple of test shots to get a correct exposure for ambient light without the flash) then set flash setting for 2nd window and -1 exposure. I only wanted to lighten any shadows/under exposed areas and did not want to give the effect a flash was used.

Wow

Gary, this is brilliant - what a shot! I also like the - not complete - symetry in the shot, the poses the two birds assume and the delicate texture of the slightly clouded sky. I'd say this is perfect from quite a few points of view!

Thanks for sharing

Cool!

Good capture, Gary, I like the transparency in the tail feathers and the texture on the body of the front bird. Your skies are much more photogenic than the Northwest's this time of year...smile!

Thanks everyone

Thanks everyone for all your comments. I live and work near the beach, yet hardly ever get to the beach anymore. So consumed with work lately. I had fun photographing these gulls and enjoyed the other gull submissions as well. 'Wishing you all a Happy New Year and Happy shooting throughout the year.
