of the two, I prefer this one — the famous desert sky look, erasing those thin clouds would clean things up a bit.

Yep. I did think about the clouds and try without them but they do a lot for the scale and it's easy to slip into the surreal processing these, so I haven't done anything to the road either.

is there such a thing as Moab NP? I think you meant Arches NP here for it looks and smells like it ..perhaps the Cathedral rocks? yes, a typical SW landscape with red monolithic rocks , blue sky and all ...a deja vu but welcome scene again ....cheers ;-)
