Nice Capture
Ross, This is a nice capture. Tack sharp in the short range of DoF. I would have preferred to have seen a DoF range from tip of beak thru the area encompassing the short feathers framing his head. Easier said than done when you encounter a fine photo op such as this.
'Curious as to what your shutter speed was. I see that you did not use a tripod. I find it nearly impossible to get an acceptably sharp photo using the 50-200 lens without a tripod if shot at the longer focal lengths. I use a Manfrotto tripod with a quick release shoe so I can quickly change from the 50-200mm lens to the camera body with the 14-54mm lens. I have a release shoe on both the camera body and the lens mount on the 50-200mm lens. Carrying the whole setup is easy. With the tripod legs extended and the camera and lens mounted on the tripod, I just sling the tripod over my shoulder (with camera strap around my neck...just in case).
Thanks for sharing.

tongue
I don't think I've ever seen an eagle's tongue before!
