Shot this evening at Cedar Hill State Park, TX (South of Dallas). This guy was only about a centemeter across. Took the exact shot several times because of wind. This one was the best.

simply amazing

I'm going to have to have another go using my extension tube -- I've been having so much fun with the 50mm by itself I haven't really tried much with the tube.

This is so far the most "non-scary" shot of a spider I've seen, LOL! However, I do find the levels a bit off. Also, the background seems to everpower the subject, may also be due to the centrality of the subject, IMHO. :-)

I might have cropped it

What does this look like if you rotate it so the spider is level (remember gravity doesn't really exist for something this size, so there's nothing unnatural about that) and the crop so more detail of the spider is visible?

Because of the light color it looks more like a little crab to me than a scary spider. The background is a little too colorful and distracting. Danny, gravity law is universal!!

Wonderful detail in the spider. The background is beautiful, but a little distracting. It took me a second to focus on the spider, but it was well worth it! Actually, I think once my eyes focused the background helped mw to really see the spider.

gravity

For very small animals, gravity is much less significant than other forces - surface tension, wind or air resistance, etc. This is why you can drop an ant from any height at all without killing it.
